New research reveals which national park has been voted the UK’s favourite, as well as which ones Brits most want to visit in the future
Lake District comes out on top for both, with New Forest and Loch Lomond among the top choices

Ever wondered what the nation’s favourite national park really is?

From the vast wilderness of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs to the beautiful waters of the Lake District, holiday lettings company holidaycottages.co.uk surveyed Brits across the nation to reveal what their number one national park is, as well as the destinations Brits most want to explore in the future1.

Of the parks the public have visited, the top 5 favourites are as follows:

1. Lake District (24%)

Enriched with charming historical towns and staggering natural beauty, its unsurprising that a quarter of Brits (24%) voted the Lake District as their favourite national park of all time. Located in Cumbria, it boasts huge peaks towering over tranquil waters, making it the perfect place for a relaxing getaway.

2. Peak District (10%)

Situated in Derbyshire, the Peak District is the oldest National Park in the UK with masses of wide-open spaces to explore – and one in ten Brits (10%) voted it as their favourite. From scenic walks and cycle rides to visiting stately homes such as Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, there is something for everyone in the Peak District.

3. New Forest (8%)

This enchanting region of meadows and woodland is a wildlife haven, and it’s no surprise that 9% of Brits voted it their favourite National Park. With delightful towns and ancient woods to discover, there is plenty to do to keep busy in the New Forest!

4. Yorkshire Dales (8%)

A walker’s paradise, 8% of Brits have voted the beautiful Yorkshire Dales as their favourite National Park, and with its striking landscapes of rolling hills, unspoilt countryside and rich culture, it’s no surprise why. Make sure to visit the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct which is one of the most photographed Yorkshire Dale attractions.

5. Loch Lomond and the Trossachs (7%)

Located in southern Scotland, the namesake Loch Lomond is Britain’s largest inland body of water, and 7% of Brits have voted it their favourite national park of all time. With breath-taking scenery at every turn and no fewer than 22 lochs, you’ll never run out of things to do here.

Of the national parks Brits have not visited, the five on the top of their bucket list are:

Lake District (16%)
Loch Lomond and the Trossachs (13%)
New Forest (8%)
Yorkshire Dales (7%)
Snowdonia (7%)

Interestingly, 4 out of 5 locations named the nation’s favourite were also featured in the top bucket list destinations for those who haven’t visited them, with only Snowdonia replacing the Peak District in the list. So, we can most definitely assume these are the nation’s favourite!
