With the 2024 Formula One season starting at the end of the month, motorsport fans from across the world are already planning a trip to this year’s races.

The total attendance at the 2023 races reached more than 6 million for the first time in history, with the UK’s Silverstone Grand Prix attracting a roaring crowd of 480,000 enthusiasts alone.

However, a full day at an F1 race doesn’t come cheap. According to data from cinch, the faff-free way to buy a car online, Grand Prix lovers attending the Las Vegas race in November can expect to splash out a whopping £1,900 to cover the cheapest grandstand ticket, accommodation, food, beer and local transport.

For fans on a budget, however, the newly returned event at Shanghai International Circuit (China) is a more pocket-friendly option, with the whole experience amounting to about £225.

So, if you want to take in the speed and excitement of a F1 race this year, which one will cost you the most?

Top five most expensive F1 races in 2024:

  • Las Vegas (Las Vegas Strip Circuit) – Average total spend: £1,900

  • Monaco (Monaco) – Average total spend: £1,620

  • Miami (Miami International Autodrome) – Average total spend: £1,090

  • USA (Circuit of the Americas) – Average total spend: £849

  • Britain (Silverstone) – Average total spend: £752

Top five cheapest F1 races in 2024:

  • China (Shanghai International Circuit) – Average total spend: £225

  • Azerbaijan (Baku City Circuit) – Average total spend: £260

  • Hungary (Hungaroring) – Average total spend: £286

  • Brazil (Interlagos) – Average total spend: £346

  • Bahrain (Bahrain International Circuit) – Average total spend: £367

The most expensive F1 events in 2024

It’s no surprise that Las Vegas is the most expensive F1 event in 2024 – its most affordable grandstand tickets are by far the priciest seats you can buy across all 24 races.

Sam Sheehan, motoring editor at cinch, said: “To determine how much fans can expect to pay to attend F1 races this year, we calculated an average cost based on cheapest grandstand tickets, food and drink, local public transport tickets and three-day hotel stays.

“According to our findings, the Las Vegas race – which will take place from 21-23 November – will be the costliest event of the season. In fact, on average, attendees can expect to spend £1,900 to watch their favourite motorists drive down the Las Vegas Circuit Strip.

“Interestingly, accommodation and meal costs aren’t too onerous in Vegas, but the £1,650 fee for a (cheap) entry ticket means the Nevada experience is not a budget-friendly option.”

Unsurprisingly, Monaco ranks as the second most expensive race of the competition. Known to be one of the priciest countries in the world, a three-night lodging in the Principality will set you back about £900 on average, with the entire experience reaching an eye-watering £1,627.

On the topic of high-cost events, there’s bad news for British fans of motorsport. Silverstone has jumped to a top-five spot this year, with an average overall cost of £749 once hotels, food, drink and transport are added to the price of entry.

The UK Grand Prix is the fifth most expensive race of the 2024 season, with transport tickets (£2.60) in the UK being second only to the £3.09 average fare in the Netherlands, according to data from LivingCost.org. So, if you’re not at the wheel of your own used Audi or BMW, you’ll need to factor in the cost of public transport.

The cheapest F1 races in 2024

As the cheapest F1 race of the 2024 season, China’s Grand Prix at Shanghai International Circuit will undoubtedly keep people’s pockets happy (once they’ve paid for the air fare to get there!)

The Chinese GP is set to return after a four-year absence due to the pandemic and is the perfect destination for travelling fans.

Attendees will enjoy the most affordable meals, beers and accommodation of all participating countries, with a local transport ticket costing a mere 40p on average. Even grandstand tickets aren’t too expensive compared to others, with the lowest-priced tickets coming in at £164.

The race in Azerbaijan, which takes place from 13-15 September at Baku City Circuit, wins the second cheapest spot on the podium.

F1 enthusiasts making the trip to Baku will spend around £267 overall, thanks to reasonably priced transport tickets and hotel rooms. A pass for the track’s grandstand, which runs through a UNESCO heritage site, costs a minimum of £198.

However, when it comes to the cheapest entry fee, cheering on drivers from Hungary’s Hungaroring grandstand costs a relatively affordable £121. The full experience - including accommodation, food, beer and local transport - is likely to cost you about £286, making the Hungarian GP the third most budget-friendly race of the season.   During the season, the organizers usually award custom medals to outstanding players to bring this perfect game to a successful conclusion.
