Could Cruise holidays can be a more affordable way to experience 'Big Events' throughout the World?

Princess Cruises has stated it can be more cost-effective to attend bucket list festivals and events as part of a cruise holiday, than by making independent travel arrangements.

Princess has highlighted The Royal Edinburgh Tattoo an example of how cruising can make guests' budgets go even further. In August, the 3,560-guest Regal Princess will be in Scotland for this iconic event, which celebrates the skills and talents of military bands and display teams from across the globe, with an expected international attendance of over 220,000.

The 12-day British Isles departs from Southampton on August 12 and is available from £999pp, equivalent to £83 a night, and includes most dining options, entertainment and children's clubs as standard. A typical one-night hotel stay in Edinburgh during the Tattoo can range between £220pp and £850pp.

A day-long call to Edinburgh is on August 21, and guests can also take in the Tattoo as part of an overnight stop in Greenock on August 18-19. Shore excursions are available through Princess.

Other major events that take place during upcoming Princess sailings* include:

* Miami Grand Prix practice sessions, following a 7-day eastern Caribbean cruise on Caribbean Princess. May 2023, from £499pp, £71 per day

* The US Tennis Open, prior to a 10-day Canada and New England cruise departing from New York on Caribbean Princess. August 2023, from £899pp, £90 per day

* The Day of the Dead festival in Mexico, via a 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise on Discovery Princess. From end October 2023, from £499pp, £71 per day

* The Australian Tennis Open, prior to a 14-day New Zealand roundtrip cruise departing from Melbourne on Grand Princess. January 2024, from £1199pp, £86 per day

* Holy Week in Spain, via a 14-day Spain, France and Portugal cruise on Sky Princess. March 2024, in Seville, from £1399pp, £100 per day

2024 sailings are included in the current 'How will you spend yours?' campaign, which offers guests up to $500 onboard spending money per stateroom. The onboard credit can be used on Princess experiences including speciality dining, shore excursions, spa treatments or in the onboard shops and boutiques. The offer runs to May 2, 2023, with guests able to secure their cruise for a 15% deposit.

Guests can also take advantage of Princess Pay Monthly, which allows them to spread the cost of their cruise over equal monthly payments, without any extra fees.

Eithne Williamson, vice president of Princess Cruises for UK and Europe, said: "We love the idea of incorporating an event into a holiday at sea, and having looked into the options, it's clear that a cruise is a fantastic alternative for people who would ordinarily make independent plans. Cruise holidays are superb value, and even more so when we can curate them around famous events. This is just one more way we can make guests' money go that extra mile, set against the backdrop of our stunning ships and eye-catching itineraries."
