Solo travel is on the rise. According to Dream Big Travel Far, “Google trend data in 2021 showed that ‘Solo Travel’ has risen in popularity by 761.15%”.

Tour operator Jules Verne has also seen a 5% increase in solo travel bookings since 2019. With 37% of their bookings coming from solo travellers, they said many “choose to travel solo for personal growth and because their friends or partner simply don’t want the same experiences as them”.

With more and more people choosing to jet off on their own, we decided to check out some of the best countries to visit solo.

Italy

With so much to offer, it’s no surprise that Italy is one of the best countries to visit solo. Whether you’re keen to go skiing in the Dolomites, relax on the beach on the Amalfi coast, or go wine tasting in Sicily, there’s no shortage of things to do and see.

One of the best ways to experience all that the country has to offer is heading on an Italy tour. It allows you to see many of the highlights with a knowledgeable tour guide – without the headache of creating an itinerary! Plus, with 55% of Jules Verne tours offering dates with no single supplement to fork out for, you can explore without breaking the bank.

India

Brimming with culture, beautiful landscapes and ancient architecture, India is a fantastic country to visit solo. 75% of solo travellers said they prefer a mixed group to explore with – and staying in hostels is a great way to meet a mix of like-minded travellers who you may end up sharing some unforgettable adventures with!

Some must-see attractions include the UNESCO World Heritage monuments of Hampi, the iconic Taj Mahal, and the Red Fort in New Delhi. It’s also worth checking out the beautiful beaches in Goa and trekking in the Western Ghat mountain range.

Iceland

Known for its spectacular landscape of glaciers, waterfalls, cliffs and gorges, Iceland is a must-visit for any solo traveller. Fly into Reykjavik and spend some time exploring the city before heading out on a voyage to see the world-famous northern lights.

You could also take a whale-watching trip, sink into the warm waters of the Blue Lagoon and walk through Thingvellir National Park. There’s plenty of nightlife in the capital city too – great for solo travellers looking to meet new people!

Costa Rica

If you’re a fan of the great outdoors, Costa Rica should be on your bucket list. With a huge variety of activities to enjoy, from horseback riding and river rafting to ziplining, there are plenty of ways to get your adrenaline pumping with other solo travellers!

Head to the Monteverde Rainforest to explore the lush jungle, the Arenal area to admire the active volcano or the Pacific coast to enjoy the best beaches.

With more than 100 bookings from solo travellers through estate agents this year alone, it’s clear that solo travel is becoming more popular than ever before. Why not plan your solo adventure today?
