Travel Daily Editor Clare Payne headed to Venice to try out the Hilton Molino Stucky on Giudecca Island

The five star Hilton Molino Stucky dominates the skyline on Giudecca Island in the Venetian Lagoon. The iconic, historically listed, 18th Century redbrick building was once one of the largest flour mills in Europe and often referred to as one of the most beautiful.

Its industrial history is evident all around the hotel, from the wooden beams in the bar and lounge area to the red brick walls in the hallways.  The building has been lovingly and beautifully restored with old and new blended perfectly. It is worth spending some time wandering around the hotel as old photos and information about the building's long past can be found here.

Hilton Molino Stucky has won numerous awards, and was most recently named as Italy and Europe's Leading Conference Centre 2021.

The hotel is home to the cities highest (and rare in this city) rooftop pools, open during the summer months and offering 360 degree views of Venice.

The well equipped gym and eforea Spa is located on the ground floor.  The spa is one of the biggest in Venice and offers a wide range of treatments designed to relax and re-energize your body, mind and soul! Enjoy the sauna, steam bath, Jacuzzi and relaxation area and rest those tired feet after sightseeing in Venice.

Stay

The hotel has 379 rooms and suites including the highest and largest suite in Venice, the Presidential Suite. Many of the rooms offer breath taking canal views.

Rooms are spacious with high ceilings and are beautifully decorated and feature luxurious marble bathrooms. The attention to detail is amazing and practicality wise the rooms offer everything you need and more.

In true Venetian style even the wardrobe has a touch of glamour about it!

The canal facing rooms offer truly incredible view of Venice, arguably one of the most picturesque cities in the world. Gazing out of the open window in the morning with the breeze drifting in, coffee in hand, is an experience to remember!

Location

The hotel is located on the peaceful Giudecca Island a 10 minute boat ride from St Marks Square and the hotel provide an hourly shuttle service.

There is a feeling of immediate calm as you leave the hustle and bustle of the city centre and arrive on the banks of Giudecca, a quieter more residential area.

You can wander along the waterfront on Giudecca and enjoy the views over to Venice. The Giudecca Canal is one of the busiest waterways in Venice with water taxi’s and buses constantly zipping to St Marks Square and back.

Giudecca is mainly inhabited by locals, giving you a unique insight into real Venetian life. Explore the waterways and wider streets here and try a true Venetian aperol spritz with some chicchetti at one of the islands many bars and restaurants.

Giudecca is also home to some excellent churches and architecture including The Basilica of the Redeemer, The Church of the Zitelle and of course the Molino Stucky building. There are also a few pretty parks to discover.

The island is reachable by the hotels shuttle service, but also the cities water buses and taxis.

Eat

The Rialto Bar & Restaurant on the ground floor of the building is open all day and is a great place for a quick drink, coffee or lunch / dinner. It offers a range of Italian and international dishes.

Breakfast is served on the ground floor towards the back of the building over looking the gardens. Breakfast is buffet style with an impressive amount of variety.

Skyline Bar & Lounge is Venice’s highest rooftop bar. The bar offers unrivalled panoramic views of Venice and the Giudecca Canal and has a very cool vibe with regular DJ’s and live music. The cocktail menu is extensive and signature cocktails are expertly created by a team of talented bartenders and mixologists making it the perfect spot for a pre-dinner aperitif whilst watching the sunset over the city.

The Aromi Restaurant is the Hotels flagship fine dining restaurant and an award winner itself. Dishes are created by Executive Chef Luca Nania using the highest quality local ingredients, all served in a wonderfully intimate setting.

Food is paired with delicious Italian wines and described as a gastronomical experience.

"A culinary journey that starts from the lagoon and its gardens, then ranging throughout the Mediterranean, to the rediscovery of the most traditional flavours of both sea and land."

Dishes are creative and beautifully presented and the service outstanding.

The menu consists of starters such as salted amberjack, Garda Lake lemon glaze, red radish, parsley water and beetroot foam.

And, as is the Italian way, there is a first course and main course option.
