Luxury Villas in North Bali with Stunning Views

In the far reaches of North West Bali, where forested hills tumble toward the sea and Java’s volcanoes rise in the distance, lies a quietly luxurious retreat that redefines what it means to get away. Sumberkima Hill Private Villa Retreat isn’t just a place to stay, it’s a destination of its own, rich in spirit, design, and soul soothing views.

Unlike the busier regions of the island, this part of Bali remains largely untouched. And that’s precisely the point. At Sumberkima Hill, luxury takes the form of space, silence, and sustainability. Here, nature leads the way, and the villas are simply exquisite companions to the setting.

Villa Pipit – Open Air Living and a Private Pool

We stayed in two standout villas; Villa Pipit, a spacious three bedroom home with a vast private pool, and Villa Vinci, a creatively crafted artist’s hideaway. Each offered a completely different experience, but both were built around the same central ethos: openness, beauty, and immersion in the landscape.

Villa Pipit opens entirely to the outdoors, its living spaces windowless but shaded, allowing the breeze and birdsong to flow through at all hours. From the pool, garden gazebo or the sea facing lounge, the view stretches across the Barat National Park to the distant volcanoes of East Java. It is a villa designed for stillness, and yet, life feels vibrant all around you.

Villa Vinci – Boutique Art Villa with Nautilus-Shaped Pool

Villa Vinci, by contrast, is a love letter to design. Its nautilus shell shaped pool curves toward the sea, reflecting the shifting sky. The villa is a gallery of handcrafted detail, glass fronted bedrooms rooms, Escher inspired mosaic floors, sculptural lighting, and a fairytale bathroom complete with a starlit copper bathtub. It feels both indulgent and intimate, like staying in the personal home of an artist with exquisite taste.

Dining at Sumberkima: Indonesian, Mediterranean & International Cuisine

Dining at Sumberkima Hill is no afterthought. With two restaurants on site, each offers a distinct experience.

Senja Restaurant serves refined Indonesian cuisine and is perched high on the hillside, offering sweeping views of the valley and Java’s distant volcanoes. It’s the perfect setting to watch the sun dip behind the peaks, an unforgettable sunset experience in Northern Bali.

It is also the setting for full moon dinners, where Balinese dancing and a special menu turn the evening into something ritualistic and rare.

Suma Restaurant brings international flair, a daily changing menu, and open air elegance overlooking the sea.

Both restaurants serve delicous dishes in lush settings, with ingredients sourced from the resorts own organic farm. Guests are encourgaed to wander around the farm. With a strong emphasis on wellness, the cuisine blends bold flavours with clean, nourishing ingredients.

Mangrove Bay Restaurant is a new dining spot nestled by the bay, offering a mix of Balinese and Mediterranean dishes. It’s the perfect place to stop for lunch after a day of exploring and adventures.

Wellness and Retreats in Bali’s Most Peaceful Region

Beyond indulgence, Sumberkima is also a hub for wellness and activity. Daily sunrise yoga classes are held in a stunning hilltop shala, there are a couple of communal pools, while Muay Thai training offers a more vigorous alternative of an evening. A new padel court is opening soon, adding to the resort’s growing wellness offering, which includes regular themed retreats.

And when it’s time to take a break, the spa is the perfect spot to unwind. With a warm sauna to melt away tension, a refreshing cold plunge to wake you up, and skilled Balinese therapists ready to soothe your body, it feels like a big, relaxing exhale. Surrounded by peaceful vibes and gentle natural scents, it’s a great place to leave stress behind and just recharge.

Eco-Conscious Travel with Community at Its Heart

This isn’t a resort built for ticking boxes, it’s for travelers who crave meaning in their journey, who want to connect with nature, local culture, and themselves.

The northwest region of Bali is known for its unspoiled natural beauty, from rugged coastlines and pristine beaches to lush hills and volcanic landscapes. It’s the perfect place to slow down and engage with the local community, where traditional Balinese culture remains deeply rooted in daily life. Visitors can explore hidden waterfalls, snorkel vibrant coral reefs, wander local markets, or simply enjoy peaceful walks through rice terraces and fishing villages. For those looking to escape the crowds and experience a more authentic side of Bali, the northwest offers a refreshing blend of nature, culture, and tranquility.

One of the most rewarding experiences offered by the resort is the chance to help grow coral gardens and support the regeneration of the local ecosystem. You can join this hands on activity out in the water, contributing directly to the health of vibrant marine life while helping protect the nearby village of Sumberkima. The coral reefs here are vital, they sustain local fish populations and act as natural shields against tropical storms, making this work essential for the community.

You can sponsor a coral or reef structure in your own name or dedicate or gift one to someone special. Planting a baby coral alongside your wish for positive change creates a touching connection between your hopes and the living reef, both growing and thriving side by side.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to take part in this during our visit, but it’s definitely at the top of our list for our next trip.

How to get to Sumberkima Hill

Sumberkima Hill is located in a peaceful area that’s a bit off the typical tourist trail. The closest major town is Singaraja, about an hour’s drive away, while Bali’s main airport, Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar), is roughly a 3.5 to 4 hour drive depending on traffic.

The most convenient way to reach Sumberkima Hill is by hiring a private car or taxi from the airport or nearby towns. This gives you the flexibility to explore the area at your own pace. Alternatively, you can rent a scooter if you’re comfortable driving, it’s a popular choice for travelers wanting to soak in the scenic coastal roads and stop at local villages along the way.

Public transport options are limited, so arranging a transfer through your accommodation or travel agent is usually the easiest choice. Once in Sumberkima, the hill and surrounding resorts are well signposted and easy to navigate. The resort has a shuttle to get you around the resort and also down to the bay area for snorkelling trips etc.

A Destination Worth the Journey

For those travelling from the UK, this is the kind of destination that makes the long journey feel instantly worth it. From the moment you arrive, the noise fades, the pace slows, and you’re reminded of the simple joy of feeling present in an extraordinary place.

Sumberkima Hill Villas is a rare find: an immersive retreat where luxury feels grounded, and every moment feels intentional.
