Get back to nature with a mindful escape to Golden Rock Inn Nevis

The Golden Rock Inn, a boutique hotel in Nevis, is the perfect sanctuary to escape to for a mindful break. The hotel is perfectly located for guests to explore the best of Nevis’ natural attractions from waterfalls and hot springs to Nevis Peak and the lush sandy beaches. With so much on offer, it is hard to believe that this paradise island is just 36 square miles.

Sustainability is at the heart of the Golden Rock Inn hideaway. It is a former sugar plantation dating back to the 1800s. Owned by New York artists Helen and Brice Marden, this is a stylish rural retreat encircled by lush tropical gardens. The original structure of the sugar mill and surrounding cottages have been lovingly preserved for guests’ enjoyment. Natural tropical breezes flow through the rooms rather than air conditioning and flora and fauna grows all around the hotel’s grounds which boasts some of the most stunning tropical gardens on the island.

A hub for adventurers and outdoor explorers, the hotel is located in the lush Gingerland hills, 1,000 ft above the Atlantic Ocean with stunning views as far as the eye can see. Golden Rock Inn, amid the natural wonders of Nevis and its mighty peak. Guests can discover its treasures whilst hiking through geothermal fields to the hot springs where they can soak in the healing mineral waters.

One need look no further than the hotel’s very own gardens to find an abundance of nature. Meandering paths invite guests to stroll through tropical gardens tastefully designed by Miami landscape architect Raymond Jungles. Both Helen and Brice worked together with Raymond to create this magical space to invite peaceful contemplation. Helen curated the plant selection and Brice placed lava boulders that were unearthed during excavation throughout the property to create sprawling spaces for appreciating the garden. The hotel also offers an oversized freshwater swimming pool and alfresco dining area. Up in the trees, you’ll hear the chatter of verdant monkeys and you’ll spot hummingbirds flitting between the branches. There are also local donkeys. Golden Rock Inn is a place to relax and the natural health benefits associated with immersion in nature, and the chance to reset, are prime reasons guests choose this property, with one view of the peak and the other of the Atlantic Ocean.

The hotel offers 11 stylish rooms with minimalist furniture, and vivid colours and bold patterns on the upholstery, meaning each suite is its own work of art. The Sugar Mill is the most unique property on the island, its tower rising majestically out of the lush foliage. Sprawling across 630sqft it has two floors one room with one king-size bed and another with two twin beds making it perfect for families. There’s also a sitting area and a terrace where you can enjoy the views of Windward Beach whilst enjoying a Caribbean rum on ice. Design accents include bright red shutters which strike harmoniously against the antique stone walls.  King-sized beds can be found in the romantic Paradise Cottage, designed in the typical Caribbean style with a large terrace that invites the outside in. Alternatively, there are the Hillside Rooms which have stunning garden views and king-sized or twin beds across four duplex cottages. And finally, is the Garden Room which is a stunning West Indies-style cottage with a queen-sized bed and bathroom as well as a porch.

Golden Rock Inn has a remarkable reputation for food and prides itself on its fresh seafood. Fresh fish and lobster come from local fishermen, tropical fruits and vegetables from neighbouring growers. Lively Caribbean cuisine is paired with global flair at The Rocks, one of the best gourmet culinary experiences on the island, helmed by chef James Eaton. Specialties include lobster sandwiches, with plantain fries and conch chowder. Breakfasts include local wahoo benedict and a vegan chickpea omelette. Tropical fruits and vegetables are sourced from the local market. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served alfresco on dining decks overlooking the sea or within intimate garden settings. Under stone vaulted ceilings, the bar serves signature cocktails such as the Mount St. Helena and Golden Rock’s renowned Rum Punch. Guests can enjoy the calm reflection of the spring-fed pools, surrounded by the flora and fauna and the sounds of nature as they enjoy the beauty of the hotel’s wonderful tropical gardens.

The hotel can arrange poolside yoga for the ultimate in resort wellness as well as excursions from horse-riding on the beach to a thrilling journey off-road in a Funky Monkey all-terrain vehicle (ATV) or a hike through the rainforest to reach the summit of Nevis peak. Golden Rock also specialises in destination weddings, with exclusive buy-out deals available. Not to mention its reputation as a desirable honeymoon destination too. Nevis is a sleepy Caribbean island of 12,000 residents and its sister island to the larger St. Kitts. Located in the Leeward Island chain, Nevis remains unspoiled, with no buildings higher than a palm tree. Friendly islanders, few vehicles, and fresh breezes keep this island special.
