Mel B celebrates her Caribbean heritage by raising awareness of the beautiful island

Melanie ‘Mel B’ Brown (MBE) has been named the UK Ambassador for Nevis, by the Nevis Tourism Authority alongside US Ambassadors, influencer Ava Roxanne Stritt, US journalist Brian Major and actress Nikeva, all taking on the new role with immediate effect.

As part of her new role, UK Ambassador Melanie will support in raising the profile of this small but mighty Caribbean island and its diversity as a holiday destination.

Melanie is of mixed-heritage and her father was born in Nevis, making her a Nevisian, as well as British. She first visited the island as a child and more recently in 2019 to pay her respects when her paternal Great-Grandmother passed at the age of 107.

Melanie Brown (MBE), UK Tourism Ambassador for Nevis: “I feel incredibly honoured to be asked to be an ambassador for Nevis. Nevis is not just part of where I come from, but it is part of who I am, it is my dad's home country and it is still the place where so many members of my family still live. For me this is a huge deal. I'm excited to know more about this beautiful island and I'm excited to share that knowledge with the rest of the world. I want to put Nevis on the map.”

The Ambassador contract has initially been signed for one year and during Melanie’s time as Ambassador, she will visit the island and work with the Nevis Tourism Authority to promote Nevis’ varied and exciting tourism experiences now that the island is back open to all visitors after nearly two years because of the pandemic.

Devon Liburd, CEO of the Nevis Tourism Authority: “We are so proud to call Melanie a Nevisian. From her success as Spice Girl, both musically and the difference she made in society, to the wonderful work that she is doing with Women’s Aid and now she is recognised as a MBE, she is a true inspiration to us all.”

“We are honoured and excited to be working with Melanie to showcase all that this beautiful island has to offer and the first job in her new role will be to come back and visit us all.”

Consumers are being encouraged keep an eye on Nevis Tourism’s social media and visit the island’s website for updates on Melanie’s new role as Ambassador www.nevisisland.com or @nevisnaturally across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
