  • Benidorm and Albufeira also feature, with hotels much cheaper in the winter holiday period

New research has revealed the cheapest times to visit the UK’s most popular holiday destinations, enabling holidaymakers to save hundreds on their travel in 2022.

Mykonos tops the list as the UK’s most Googled holiday destination, and March is the cheapest month to travel – with hotel rates as low as £84 per night, compared to £211 in August.

The study by LuxuryHotel.com looked at the average hotel cost per day in the UK’s 30 most searched holiday destinations containing the word “hotel” to discover the most cost-effective time to visit each place.

Mykonos is the UK’s most searched holiday destination over the past 12 months, receiving an average of 14,000 queries each month. The analysis revealed that March is the cheapest month to book a holiday on the Greek island, with hotels costing on average £84 per night. With temperatures reaching upwards of 30°C in the summer months prices rise considerably, sitting more than £120 higher compared to the cheaper months, with a hotel costing £211 per night on average. That means someone choosing to travel in March could expect to pay £588 for seven nights in a hotel, compared to £1,477 for the same stay in August – a saving of nearly £1,000.

Dubai is the second most popular hotel search for Brits planning a getaway, with 13,000 searches a month. Its cheapest month is May, with an average price of £38. Dubai is usually cheaper in the summer months like July and August, as for many tourists the country is too hot, with temperatures peaking at 41°C in August alone. November is the most expensive month to stay in the city, with an average hotel price of £75 a night, nearly double the price of May.
